Merging categories

Unneeded or unwanted categories can be merged into other categories, so that digital heritage items are re-assigned from one category to the other.

Reasons to merge categories may include:

  • Categories erroneously added through mis-spellings when batch importing digital heritage items.
  • Previously useful categories that are being removed due to site restructuring or digital heritage item review.

From the dashboard, in the Categories & Keywords box, select Manage Categories.

From the tabs at the top right of the window, select Merge Terms.

In the Terms to Merge box, select the category that will not be kept. All digital heritage items using this category will instead use the category identified in the next step.

From the Merge Into dropdown, select the category that will be kept. All digital heritage items using the category identified in the previous step will now us this category instead.

No other settings needs to be changed.

Click Submit.

Click Confirm.

A confirmation message will be displayed.
