Mukurtu Mobile

Heritage in Your Hands

Mukurtu Mobile was developed in 2012 by CoDA and map2app as a mobile client for iOS and Android devices, to allow Mukurtu CMS users to capture and upload rich media content to their archives as digital stories. This project was supported in part by grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Humanities, under the direction of our partners at Washington State University. CoDA developed functional specifications and supervised engineering and launch of the app, providing guidance for digital data management and preservation best practices.

My students felt the Mobile app was 100 times easier than the [Mukurtu] Premiere site through a desktop. Several said that they’d wished they’d started on that interface first.

The Challenge

How do we bring sustainable media workflows into our everyday lives? The project’s main goal was to integrate Mukurtu CMS secure hosting and multifaceted access control with the latest technology for media production and mobile access.

The Solution

With Mukurtu Mobile you have control over your media, the stories they tell, and who has access to them once you’ve published them on the web. Thanks to funding through the IMLS and NEH, Mukurtu Mobile was created for integration with 1.5 sites so users can capture and create stories on the go, using cell phones and tablets. Mukurtu 2.0 is expected to integrate with Mobile in August 2015.
